Only 5 cattle. Yes in hatherleigh. I anit got time this week tho, plus tb testing this week. Can you actually sell in between testing and reading your test?
Yes it should do, I think someone posted Exeter prime price was up £150 /head so if Irish protest carries on it should rise.So up the price should go if not I would say don't let them have them
Will you tup yours this year @Northeastfarmer would you be able to post some photos of them? The bodies on them are awful now...so narrow and thin legged...that’s why I bought the ones I did, big broad chested ones, big strong legs
Yes you can . If the ones to be sold have already been tested clear and still in test or if they are going to a red market.
these are the type of mule lambs we breed, plenty of bone and confirmation...averaged £96 for just under 700 lambs so fairly happy with that on the year.I don’t disagree but They need some more body tell all your fellow breeders. Get some body into them swales instead of those fine little things. There are a lot that a too narrow by a long way. I want to buy some lonks and a BFL tup to try at some point as I think it will make a good mule.

I've pre tested a cow to go on the cull (green market) she went clear and will go Thurs . The rest of the herd is in between a test and will be read on Thurs afternoon . If the rest go down I am still able to move her as the shutdown on the rest of the herd doesn't come into place till midnight thurs night ........so I'm told by my vets.

What after the protests stop? Glut of Irish beef?
Yes definitely tup them...they are easily big enough...will take some pics when I get them inWill you tup yours this year @Northeastfarmer would you be able to post some photos of them?
Erm, no it isn't! Speaking to a local farmer this week who was wrongly shut down for 4mths due to an inaccurate inspection.Being inspected on a hook is far more reliable than a skin test.
Sounds like in this case professional advice is needed. I just rang my vet to check I could still move the cow and he said " provided she is off the farm before the others are read then that is ok . They did also confirm that if one of the remaining HeRd becomes an IR then the shut down is straightaway but the 60 days needs for another test doesn't start till the next day . They also confirmed you can move animals off to an abattoir or to a closed fattening unit in between tests but they strongly advise against it .If you have an IR/ Reactor then at the end of the test the vet will give you a TB notice and from that minute onwards you are not allowed to move cattle on/off without a licence even if they have been tested the previous week or are going deadweight unless you already have a general slaughter licence which a new herd outbreak will not have!
You can of course move animals on/off the holding on the same day of the test upto when you read them if they have already been tested before.
You cannot move animals off a holding that have been jabbed but not read which is what I think Matthew was referring to.
