This doesn’t fill me with excitement....

Southern Hemisphere lamb has been priced higher than ours for a few years anyway 🤷🏻‍♂️ Add in China’s pork problem. A NZ prime minister that is hell bent on a “greener” diet, NZ meat production numbers are lower than they have been…

I dont want to or dont wish to keep suckler cows but as somebody buying there progeny I do see a vast difference in prices for weaned calves and would of thought the top end do leave more money behind even with bigger risk and bigger costs
I’ve always thought there is a line. You can breed as good as possible up too that line and your profit should increase with it. Once you cross the line your costs keep going up but your profit either plateaus or drops a bit. Fancy cattle are for those with deep pockets that can stand the losses associated with pure bred or extreme beef cross continental cattle.

Bakewell last week I would of seen bunches of weaned sucklers ranging from £400 ish to £1200 ish for the same age ,granted kept on very different systems and costs but I would of thought if you are going to the effort of keeping a cow you may as well aim for the higher end of these quotes
