Not got a lot of time for BS or NFUS but to be fair to them we complained about 5 or 6 loads earlier on this season and they rectified them all. Some were low sugar and some were high dirt. We've done this in the past and they've always changed them. Those loads above were in a batch of 30+ loads and were standout different figures to the rest by a decent margin so hard for them to argue though.

Makes me angry to especially when the first of the high tares was loaded the same day as the previous 4 but didn't go into the factory until the following morning.

My dispute was rejected but I could appeal but how I see it what's the bloody point if they couldn't see there was something wrong with them loads the first time what's going to make them change there minds this time.

An odd high one caused by a rouge Stine then far enough but it looks like because it was a new day they'd make the tares higher. Could it be a different person doing the testing in the tare house????

What's NFUs got to say about it, I know they're on here.

Even a rogue stone that gets into the sample isn't reflective of the whole load.
Any load that is mathematically significantly different should be adjusted back to a growers average.

But what I’ve never understood is that all the samples go to one central lab? Newark maybe? My thoughts are they can’t be very big or they would need artics to move them every day. And therefore the samples might not be very representative? Perhaps I’m barking up the wrong tree.....

Samples are about 3'*2'*1ft plastic boxes, all sent to Wissington for analysis. I assume it's the same now Wissy has shut & the others are still open.

We harvested the last of our beet today. It was a bit muddy to say the least but the field appears to have yielded slightly better than the previous fields, although that’s not much to celebrate. Hopefully it will be delivered in the next week or so and I will be able to see the adjusted tonnage.

Is anyone else already feeling a bit despondent or anxious about next years beet crop?
Normally at this time of the year the previous years failings are a distant memory and all attention turns to the next crop.

Today I was putting muck on beet land and as I was trundling up and down I was going through the growing of the crop in my head, particular weeds on this field, areas of MN trouble, compaction, rough spray programmes ect which always gives me the enthusiasm to try to grow the very best crop I can but today my thoughts turned to virus yellows and cercospora and my heart sank.

Had the beet harvester in today , think it’s some of the best conditions of this year’s campaign!
