Best 12 volt electric fence energiser

I need 2 energisers for 3 strand sheep electric fencing, areas of 30 - 40 acres.

I understand I need at least a 1 metre earth stake knocked fully in the ground, also solar charging would be an advantage.

All suggestions appreciated
Thanks

I use rappa defender 2.0 they’re good and I get 9kv (the max my reader goes up too) on 1200m of 3 strands but in summer I struggle too get over 5kv due too earthing Possibly.. they’re £140 not sure id want too spend much more on an energizer for fear of it disappearing

Speedrite make the best , got a few hotlines and gallaghers and electric shepherds (rutland) , reliability in that order and put them inside ammo boxes chained to a tree , out of sight and all that
edit have a few MVF 2j ones they are pretty good but soon run a battery down (used for training )

I have a couple of 3 joule Speedrites which are fine but my favourite are the Hotline Buzzards, they seam much better built and have a really good stand. Whichever make you go for make sure it's a minimum of 3 joule. A metre of earth stake is overkill in most situations. I use the metal corner posts as my earth and they are in the ground 1.5 foot, in the summer keep them watered.

Thanks for replies, anyone used Hotshock ?
£200 for 4 Joules, will higher joules run battery down quicker ?
I'm hoping where they are needed is fairly secure, not road side.
I'd always thought an earth stake in 18" was enough but it appears I'm wrong ?

yes , unless you get a good solar unit to go with it , would only use the higher power ones for training , both my breeds only take a good shock once or twice , very rarely get out even with a .5mj fencer

The higher the energy (Joules) then the faster it will run a battery down, and the better earth it will need to be effective.

As above, I look for a 2J minimum, but have a 5J VOSS fencer (with a ‘half power’ mode for Norma” use) that I use for training sometimes.
Speedrite units seem good, but relatively expensive (& too many features that nobody needs?). I have one RAPPA Defender 2J fencer that I’m very happy with for the price, but the connection fittings look suspiciously like the cheaper VOSS units...

Just looking at VOSS units they look too cheap to be true? There’s a 10joule dualpower one on there which can have half power mode £200... seems too cheap to be true??

Couple of these
https://www.moleonline.com/mvf-d3500-12v-230v-dual-power-electric-fencing-energiser.
Couple of minimum 60w solar panels with charge controllers
A car or tractor battery for each set and an ibc tank to mount each of the panels on and protect the charge controller energiser and batteries from the elements.

Pretty much the perfect 12v set up ime. Good constant power coupled with low maintenance.

That fencer looks to be decent value, but again, suspiciously ‘VOSS like’, even down to being made in Germany and a 3 yr warranty....

Similar output fencer straight from VOSS is £99.99 (inc VAT).

I bought a voss mains powered one to run an electric fence round a shed and it packed up in a year. Disapointing as it came very well packaged, is well finished and lives in the dry. Like most things you get what you pay for.

I went for Voss because they were cheap and we were losing units a lot. The tin box package isn't that secure but we still have both units working and still on site. Speedrite are brilliant but difficult to keep secure (we had the 3000 ) and we have a Rutland probably 20 yrs old and still going

Estate fencing.

Got big output voss one here 10 joules or something, whatever ... even on low power hes a bugger if you get hit,o_O wee on the fence with him on and it would pretty near blow yer willie right off I reckon....😂
I got one of them for training new welsh draft ewes, I lent over the fence to take the battery off the other day touched the wire with my chest! Christ did I know about it all bloody day, no wonder they don't get out after a week behind that keep them tight with just a little hay.
Once they are trained they live behind 3.5 MVF units and don't ever look at getting out. I used to be on all electric shepherd but now they have been bought out and aren't interested in spares I'm down to only 3 of them now.
