Ratchet straps. Cordless tools. The internet.

The last one particularly. No-one under about 40 has any idea how much information used to be like gold dust. Where you could buy certain supplies. Who could fix bits of machinery. Now you go online and start googling. Within 5 minutes you have options from all over the country and the other side of the world.
I could rope a load of straw on quicker with rope ' anther skill down the closset

Lot healthier to walk and better for the dog but all inventions have their downside
But the problem is with most inventions like a milking parlour . They result in expansion. Less farms less workers and the loss of communities. The only beneficiary being tumble weed
If I had walked as far as all of the worn out quads I’ve had have I would’ve been on my second set of knees and third set of hips

Fudging plastic twine is everywhere though; you can find it in fields years after it found it's way there. There has to be an environmentally friendly version that will stick being wet for 12 months before rotting?

Every bale I've ever opened contained plastic 'offcuts' of twine, there must be millions of these lying around the countryside. Plastic that never degrades is a blight on the countryside and should be fudging banned. Black sheeting and black wrap would be next.

NHs loopmaster now ties the offcut in the knot, no longer leaving them in the bale, quite smart. Still, not as good as a fully biodegradable string.

The TV is without doubt the best thing to happen to agriculture when conditions are not within a reasonable tolerance for a job just go to the house and switch the TV on, and worry about everything else when it’s fit to do 👍 Ps the TV may have been superseded now but it was the original best way to encourage patience

I go first , quad bike .
having to carry 15-20 acres worth of steel fencing stakes and poly wire , into and out of wet fields , 20-30 at a time for the first 10 years of my career because we only had a 2wd van, i would agree with you (and we hand reeled in the wire individually ) . Doing it now in less than an hour single handed i wouldnt have believed it back then . couple that with the mobile phone where you can talk to someone other end of the country , kids dont know they are born now
