Best splitting maul

Well ticked off with this splitting maul! Only 2days old, €30!
Got maybe a dozen swings and than fell apart. No over strike either.
Will try returning to coop hopefully refund. Just no way it should of failed like that and I certainly ain't strong enough to snap it.

So looking for replacement
Want to keep it low tech
Suggestions?

easy enough to get a good bit of hickory and replace the handle

replace the handle with a pick ax handle slightly heavier and stronger!

Fiskar x 27

Bought one for dad as he's 77 and the traditional maul was abit much.

You wouldn't believe how well it splits logs despite being lighter than a traditional maul.

Highly recommended

Just got a fiskars x27 a couple of months ago. Brilliant at splitting twisted and knotty wood. Very surprised at how easy it was compared to normal axe and splitting grenade.
I'm sure you wouldn't regret getting one.

Grain not straight on the handle and no cutting edge on the maul - you deserve a full refund

Choose wisely next time.

If you get a new wooden shafted maul, get a roll of electrical insulating tape, and wrap the whole roll of tape around the bottom 8 to 10 inches of the shaft.

Bought one from lidl which is a steel head wrapped in a composite shaft and it's very good

I have a husqvarna s70 same as the fiskars really infact almost identical head but got it slightly cheaper and its brilliant i also have a very nice wetterlings if you want something more traditional its the way to go

Gransfors Bruks for me. Splits well, is nice and light and never had to touch the edge, ever in spite of hitting nails and other foreign objects.
