Big weanlings trade?

We about to wean a small bunch of mainly big 6-8 month Hex steers and heifers with a few LimX heifers.

Trade really does seem a shocker for Natives, even for quality animals, so unload or keep until turnout Sales next Spring? I don't think either will lead to much, if any, profit on the Sucklers this year...

If they native breeds out of suckler cows it's a far better job than dairy bred . However I always think HFD x are better sold in the spring .....but who knows these days . There was a decent trade on good things in Hfd market a couple of weeks ago but the sale 2 weeks before was hopeless. ( I'm talking Hfd x cattle )

Cheers, a bit of hope then, all are xbred cows apart from a few oddities like the Longhorns!

Drayton seems rubbish on natives at present, and the Auctioneer more or less admits it in the Market reports! ;) Pondered Shrewsbury but not sure on Buyer numbers, although it seems on the Up. Welshpool is where I'd sell potential breeders, few of our would fit that bill I suspect.

Is there much stock in Hereford? L o n g time since I was there... Used to buy in Ludlow 10 years ago when I was looking for hex small stores.

Hereford would be a good place for them . Quite a few still on the HFD named Sire scheme . Probably too far though perhaps . Ring the Auctioneers and get them to help with transport costs !!

How did you get on?

Disappointing prices across the board and saw the same yesterday in Shrewsbury. However, we sold the bunch of 7 heifers I got on the trailer, and we were pleased with the p/kg price we got in the end. Was recommended to go stores as opposed to weanling section... Good advice on the day

I suspect as was said by the illustrious Member from Herefordshire, beef cow suckler calves are better than dairy mongrels...!! ;-) Couple of little Limmy weanlings were very pleasing and might persuade Herself to allow me a Continental bull next year (if the job looks worth it still) for the Girls.

The Hex weanlings looked nice in the Ring, and will be in the market report and seemed to be wanted... In all, a more positive outcome than anticipated, but I suspect bugger all profit on them after an expensive Winter last year and droughty summer. Farming hey?

The question to ponder now, is do I take a couple more bunches in next week now...

Keep the little un's over winter then.
