Sounds like a great idea but will you actually pay any attention to the data it collects?

I'd be interested to know how reliable it will be and giving you a consistent score on a daily basis.

Anybody seen delaval body condition score scanner in action or know what price it is?
DeLaval Body Condition scoring camera - These comments are my personal opinion.
I have install a couple of these systems, I think they are very good, You may not agree with every reading it gives ie that cow is a 2.5 but you think its a 2 . this does happen. but the system is consistent. so it will always put that cow at a 2.5. so it is accurate. and in this system you are looking for change and this picks it up very well. a lot of the assurance schemes are asking for this data now, so it's a big saving in labour and it's more accurate even if the same person does the condition scoring.
Cost, I'm not sure so ask your local DeLaval rep, but it was roughly around £4,000, But it depends if you already have the DeLaval software (Delpro), if you already have an ID source like on a separation gate or a VMS. then there is an annoying subscription fee which you have to pay each year for the licence to use it. DeLaval have to pay this to the company who built the software to run it. But overall its a great system and it will pick up a sick cow faster than it being weighed.

That's interesting that you can pick up a sick cow quicker than weigh cells. Dont have delpro but considering getting it. Think delaval have an offer on at the moment to upgrade from alpro. Was told by someone that you can link the BCS scanner to feeding system , effectively feed to condition rather than feed to yield but not sure if that's true?

reading this, makes me glad we got rid of our holstiens, xbred so much cheaper to run, 122 cows, preservice check, 2hrs 15mins, 2 washouts, and 2 oest jabs, the rest fine, vet confirmed, body condition about right, 5/6 a day coming bulling,
Rather different to our old holstiens, april, av 26 liters, on 4 kg conc, and no buffer, just grass.

Doesn't matter what breed or type a cow you have you still need to manage their Body condition, be it from getting too fat or too thin. Its crossbreds I work with. Red tractor scheme starting to ask for evidence of condition scoring as well now too.
