What's the main reason for Brecknock over the Improved Welsh/ other strains of Welsh @Ysgythan ?

I'm too far south in Wales to come across them other than as store lambs
It’s where you live, or more pertinently where the sheep live. Each variant has its patch. They’re not adverse to “blending” genetics, and sometimes it’s not entirely planned…

Southies still sell to Wales both from Lockerbie and Wales & Border ram sales ( scottish rams go down ) and i would say the Brecknock still has a cheviot head , just like the big Wicklow cheviots have the head but a terrible body . Southie's (hill cheviots now ) were taken to Caithness & Sutherland and crossed with Leicester to finally produce massive big caithness type and hill type northies . The Caithness type were great big tall roman nosed sheep , poor milkers but very good at eating hard feed so they have reduced size by crossing with hill types to produce park type although the caithness sheep are still big and powerfull . Southies still go north from Lockerbie to be used in hill northie flocks and texel may or may not have been used in hill and park types

They've had Scottish judges at the Sennybridge sale in the past and the prize winners don't sell that well, they're looking for a different type. One year the Champion was £450 and top price tup wasn't placed in the show and made about £8000
