Brexit

This isn’t a political thread and would rather it not become one. More one borne out of curiosity.

1, are we farmers ready for brexit ? What % do we think are prepared ?
2 if yes what have you done to prepare. Have crops been forward sold quicker? Have things like fert been ordered earlier? Etc.
3 is our supply industry ready? What if anything do we think they have done? Have we had enough advice on items that might be short supply if we leave with a no deal?
4 have we farmers done things differently in the run up to brexit? For example have we been putting off investment decisions? Or paying down debt faster than originally planned.
5 lastly how many of us and I definitely include myself here understand all the consequences of a no deal?

Like I said no agenda here just interested to know how we are all feeling about it.

My conclusion has been to carry on pretty much regardless.
This is not burying my head in the sand but a realisation that to make any big changes would be a gamble.
7 months after we were definitely going to leave, we still have no idea whether it will ever happen let alone what effect leaving will be. You would have to be a very 'confident' person to sell all your stock now and believe you would re-stock cheaply in a month's time.
I have always tried to hold stock of anything vital and have always invested in trying to insure my business is resilient. Instead of ordering essentials 1 month in advance, it is now 2 or 3.
What we can do as individual farmers is very limited. We will soon see whether the NFU and ADHB are fit for purpose. It is highly likely that producers will suffer due to processors and middlemen, screwing us fraudulently under Brexit excuses [ as they have for the last year]. This is probably worse than leaving the single market which they have abused to control our prices.

I'm still confused about the whole thing. The word is that Brexit will be done on 31st October with or without a deal, but the commons and lords took "no deal" off the table .. so, come 31st if the latest deal (what ever the hell that is) is rejected and no deal is off the table... what will actually happen??

I've absolutely no idea how you peeps are coping with this complete lack of clarity. How can you possibly prepare for something when the information from the government is real sketchy.

Boris Johnson has repeated again today that we’re leaving on the 31st deal or no deal.
Given his past record with having no respect for the law or what’s best for the country.
Prepare yourself for a no deal brexit, unless the eu back down, this lunatic will take us out.

Would the last person to leave the country please turn the lights out.

last time i looked ppl were still trying to get in from france on inflatable boats :)

i can't see how this can pan out....even if boris gets a deal i can't see parliament backing it,,,,there's an act of parliament stopping no deal.......a boris deal is surely just an election ploy:scratchhead:

delay then election is only way it can play out surely :scratchhead:

The sun will still rise on the morning of november 1st and go down in the afternoon, work will still need to be done and there will be challenges just like any other day. Generations of farmers have survived times much harder than any we will ever see so farmers will get on with it just like any other day. There will be winners and losers just like any other day . Enough with hysteria please. Keep calm and carry on.

We have done little to prepare for it here, mainly because we have no idea what we must prepare for. I feel a no deal will be pretty disasterous for the dairy sector so probably best not thinking about it too much! I hope we manage to get a decent deal not something half baked at the last minute. Although I voted remain and would still do the same i'm glad that Boris is going to put an end to all the uncertainty as it is perhaps the worst of all.

What exactly can farmers or anyone do? It will be a non-event. The sun will come up. People will walk outside their houses staring at the sky, realising it has not fallen in.

They came, they saw, they did a little shopping.

Heavens knows how folk got on during the Battle of the Atlantic, the Blitz or the Doodlebugs.

Big difference back then as people were desperate for food, I don't think many would care if farmers in the UK disappeared.
