Bridleway Issue

Our County Council asked if they could meet me and survey a BOAT through the farm with a plan to provide new signs throughout the route. As with our neighbours I gave them a couple of hours. Plans were made. Surveys were undertaken. Letters were written. Signs were designed. Parish Councils were informed. More letters were written.

And then nothing happened.....

A couple of years later I contacted them and asked what had gone wrong and was informed that their entire budget for the project had been spent on the planning leaving them with nothing to do any actual work. You could not make it up, but it's probably the same everywhere?

If they want to put some more markers up, then insist that they are either wooden fingerposts or waymarker discs on a wooden post, so that it is in keeping with the countryside (nothing metal!!). Tell them exactly where they can be put, explaining if needed, that the need for large machinery etc. Local ones here were helpful and quickly agreed to place them where I suggested they were put once I explained that they’d simply be wiped out otherwise.

I’d say absolutely not to mounting blocks! If someone can’t get back on heir horse, then it’s not your problem, however, if they had a problem with said mountingblock you can guarentee their no win no fee claims guys would come to you first for compensation...

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
