However many that are worthless, it is a waste, they should have a value, but the market for them is simply not there.
The big problem with dairy calves, is they are a by-product, the important bit, is to get the cow, back in calf, and producing milk. They are a useful by-product though, and if we produce the right calf, the market will pay well for them, hence the big variation in price, and like Sid, we usually get our name in the mkt report, and its quite nice, when we do.
Cows are generally reverting back from extremes, to something more longer lasting, and stronger, which should produce a better calf. It would be better if beef semen were bought on quality, rather than price.
