Who know where it will end. My main gripe is with the testing system. I just can't see how Bulls tested in predominantly one system can be relevant to another.
Pli is a solely U.K. Index it ranks the bulls in a very different order. Look at sci for grazing, jerseys and British friesians is where it's at IMO

Wow.

You still use a 3 legged stool and a bucket? Oil lamps?
Nope just using bulls that have been tested. And proven. Genomics is best guess. Never have bred from a heifer on this farm and yet will double the cow numbers in 2-3 years by putting all the cows onto normal semen.

Just so far off the mark isn't not funny. The last 10 years have seen massive improvements in the Holstein breed heath traits.
Its had to or they would have died out. Breeding from heifers and cows using sexed semen, imports and yet the national herd has shrunk over the last 10 years!
Why all these campaigns to eradicate disease, johnes, bvd?
You may be better than average but average is still a long way down

But most of the daughters of top Proven holstein bulls On the sci indrx have never seen a blade of grass in thrir lives. its just a dodgy conversion from pli. Irish and NZ bulls barely get a look in on sci and i find it hard to believe they are that bad

Use ebi then if it fits your goals everyone is different

EBI and SCI are not yet fully proven indexes, use with extreme caution !!
A Friend out in Ireland has been using the EBI since its release and he said its breeding something on the line of milking rabbits without the will to milk! he was looking for some proper British Friesian to get some power back and hopefully milk!

Your comment was just totally wrong. The Holstein breed has had huge improvements in health traits in the last 20 years. With all of it coming in the last 10. It was just wrong. There is no defending it.

The most fertile Friesian I can find is Bidlea Tredene converted to Holstein I think his fertility index would be 29.7. Just shows there is still room for lots of improvement. I do hope we start seeing more Holsteins over the 20 mark soon....
