@Jdunn55 what’s your contenders like? Got 5 heifers to bull sexed 3 jingles and 2 demons. I prefer the look of his half brother Apex but he’s not available sexed.

Love em!

If he was better on the numbers he'd be a bull to use on everything, for what I'm doing his numbers need to be better, although im tempted to order 50 conventional and use him to sweep up :/

Theres a bull from the same family as apex and contender heading to stud so don't go too heavy with him as this bull is even better

Probably go for him, I liked conrid but just he’s negative for lameness which puts me off as I want cows with good feet to walk up and down the road. Black jewel looks a great bull to me, put him on cows with being an outcross and jumping from a genomic PLI of 205 to 253 as a proven bull with better fertility and type traits. Mother also did 9 lactations averaging 7573 @ 4.8BF and 3.8P.

Black jewel is one I keep looking at using, there's something that puts me off but can't remember off the top of my head

Contender is selling really well still, anyone who's got calves from him keeps going back for more as they look so good 👍 don't think you'll be disappointed.

From memory conrid is negative fat so not one Im able to use.

What do you think of Norseman? Never really looked at him before as he's negative fat but otherwise seems a good bull? Cogent want me to use him in some contracts to make something a bit different and hes really good for lifespan and health traits which is handy to have

Just looked up black jewel

Things to watch on him are negative milk, negative fertility (not the most important genomic trait imo), and his lifespan and health traits. Used on cows with good figures for them I'd say you're onto a winner.

Would be a good cross onto jingle cows I think.

3 gens ex dams as well behind him as well

Yea he’s not perfect but overall for a proven bull I thought he looked pretty good. His genomic and proven proof

Id say he looks a good bull, well put together very good fertility and adds milk. His PLI has only dropped by £19 in 7 years

What's your long term aim coming away from pure jersey? Look like a nice cross

At the moment we're 4500litres, 450ms from a 400-450 kg cow. I don't want to milk any more cows but I would like to be doing another 300k litres by doing 5000 litres, 500ms.

On average i just think the crosses are superior in just about every way, they are easier calves and hardier cows.

I don't actually like to BF crosses that I'm milking very much so haven't used any this year or last.
