I've gone with the free fibre upgrade with BT. They're talking about 25mbps which would do me.
Is that FTTP or FTTC,
If FTTP you could have up to 300 mbs speed
- If FTTC the last bit from the green cabinet will still be the existing copper wires, & the speed may be variable - See this table -
Distance to cabinet (metres)Estimated downstream connection speedEstimated upstream connection speedCumulative %'age of premises at this distance

Pretty sure it was FTTP. Maybe should have paid more attention

Just checked, 25mbps is the 'stayfast guarantee'. 50 is the estimated speed.

Just remembered, should have updated you all. Got full FTTP fitted two weeks ago. It's definitely faster but maybe not quite as quick for normal web browsing as I thought. You appreciate the difference when uploading etc though. Not done a speed test yet.

I should update on my 4G as well
It has not gone as planned. The mast gives out a perfect and very high quality signal but the speed is terribly inconsistent. While initial installation resulted in mid 30 or better, up to the 50’s, within hours it had degraded. The company has been back twice and done tests and confirm that the signal is being throttled to an average of 5 and sometimes to below 2. This is unacceptable and well below the threshold for the government grant. They have reported it to EE engineers but as yet it is unresolved.
If not resolved soon I will require the system removed and my deposit paid back as, without lying, it does not qualify for the government grant as is.

That's weird to what I have seen, as upload is normally designed to be lower than download due to asymmetric set up which gives better downloads than uploads?
Depends on where you are .Testing it Wright next to router and it's nearly equal .The engineer said should be the same with this system

Is this EE ?
Unusual to hear of EE throttling the speed like that, though a Google seach does come up with folk complaining about it
What contract are you on
Is your local mast likely to get a lot of traffic.

My upload speed on 4G is also generally faster than download. Totally different to copper cable broadband. However it is still poor. A few seconds ago 4G was/is giving me 5.15mbps download and 16.6mbps upload.

I'm on a bloody expensive EE unlimited data[only] contract. Luckily it was installed just before lockdown was lifted and there is no difference before and after. There are now hoards of tourists right enough but there's no real difference at different times of the day and night either. The installation engineers believe that there may be a fault on the mast, because the signal is as strong and clear and consistent as it gets, so I should be getting speed as fast as it gets, around 40 to 55mbps download consistently. But I'm not, as I enumerated in the post above.

What is the system and set up if you dont mind saying, as it is not common to get faster upload to download.
Yes, some routers can sway things, but predominantly download is priority, so I'm interested to learn more?

Have you tried talking to EE to see what they say.
I`ve found EE call centres to be one of the better ones to deal with.-
Might be something to do with the fact I generally get conneted to the one on Tyneside ;)

Not yet. My installation contractors have an exclusive contract/partnership with EE and have the appropriate contacts within the company to get things done, or so they say. They stand not only to lose the cost of installation but their commission from EE and ongoing commission, which I estimate to be worth at least £10/month on top if they don't get it sorted. So that is one incentive for them to push EE.

@Cowabunga - could I ask which scheme you managed to get? One of them says you have to find your own provider and I am not having any luck with that.
Another says it will double the download. I currently get between 0.4 and 0.2 so I would like more than double that!

Have a look at the video. There are at least two companies active in the area installing 4G broadband. Use Ookla speed check on your 4G phone, perhaps at roof height if signal is poor, to see what speed you will get as a minimum. I use Dyfed Telecom and their engineer is based at Llanarth. Their sales people will get in touch after your enquiry, with their aerial on a pole to raise it up and to determine the strongest signal direction.

This is what we have .Acting as a host with recieving mast on building to spread the signal around parishes.

At least the chart seems reliable, which is more than be said for the providers of the service sometimes.
