Any advice on buying a tractor private? Looking at a 5 year old tractor around 50k worth, hopefully going to see it tomorrow/Tuesday, if it is as the seller says, how do you go about transferring such a large sum of money safely? What sites can you use to check for outstanding HP etc

I would put some of it on hp, which would then safeguard you about outstanding hp and gives you a bit protection.

You can get a hpi check done, same as a car.

If it's any sort of money I would.

Same with any transaction, trust is required both sides.

Go in with your eyes open, has he had it long?
Has it been any trouble?
Does it look out of place where it is? ie bought to sell on.

Unless you've a large was of cash it's gonna be a Bacs,
Get someone at home to transfer the money and then drive it away the same day?

At that sort of money, does your trusted local dealer know you are looking for such a machine, it is not unheard of for a dealer to broker the machine and assist with financing, win, win as it were.

If you ask what repairs have been done? Then it's really nice to see bills if it was carried out by a dealership.
I have bought and sold many tractors privately and always got on well on both sides as when selling I'd rather keep 100% of a sale price rather than selling to a dealer and seeing 20-25% mark up on a machine I have owned and ran for years a week later as it's my responsibility to my business as well as myself to achieve the best price I can.

And when buying it's nice to see a saving on dealer prices and most people are very genuine except one I bought a machine off a year ago that after a month of purchase the guy wouldn't load it to me because it apparently had been listed by the court because of and outstanding unresolved problem elsewhere with his business which was a fraudulent sale on his behalf and he has also failed to supply an invoice.
