No, it's a conspiracy.Does vitacell work for giving selinium to cattle ?
I forgot to ask him I will though, I thought I bought some today called Protect, then after paying £35 for it saw it was a probotic. I think I will go to the vets and get vitasel for both of them, one is sick today, a temp of 40.1 and off suck, had pen and strep now, he was great last night. The thin one has a very scurfy coat ,thought you would like to hear that !I will look online for a tonic though right now I am waiting to see if they live . No scour at leastWould u mind letting me know what he says? [emoji3] [emoji106]
Oh crofteress that doesnt sound too good. Really sorry to hear that. Hopefully the pen and strep will help. Do u think its pneumonia? Iv made enquiries about a tonic for my calf. I will share any response i get with u. My fingers are crossed for ur calves [emoji45]I forgot to ask him I will though, I thought I bought some today called Protect, then after paying £35 for it saw it was a probotic. What a shame, at least if its a little lower there is some hope.I think it must be pneumonia . wee man never got colostrum for 12 hours , then when he did it was the powdered kind, so not ideal. See how it goes, it was down a tiny bit just now
Ooh never heard of that one. @bovine do u have any info on what ladycrofter is describing?@sjstewart I just had a thought, and I've never seen it, but could it be that thing where the dam has eaten mouldy silage and has fungal spores in her blood that pass through the placenta? And then the calf has hair issues? Possibly from this vague description only @bovine will be able to come up with the name for it.
Sounds promising. Both taking their bottles is a good thing and a temp of 38.7 is brill. I took the temps of both my calves last night. One was 39.2 the other 39.3. I have no concerns about the red calf so im fast coming to the conclusion they just run a bit on the hot side. Honestly....livestock would put u into an early grave yourself!Hi sjewart the one with the temp has a slightly lower temp it was 38.7in first thing when he was colder but 39.6 tonight, he is really hungry for his bottle but not mooing for it and lying down a lot, worried he might scour as his dung was looser tonight, the other tiny one is just weak but feeding well, just worried they get crypto as I had it in the spring and sheds clean and dry but I hadn't used the disinfectant yet, they wouldn't be strong enough to cope with it
The vit e /selenium tonic is one you order through the vet, he says
Are you referring to listeriosis?@sjstewart I just had a thought, and I've never seen it, but could it be that thing where the dam has eaten mouldy silage and has fungal spores in her blood that pass through the placenta? That's mange. Ivomec soon clears that up.View attachment 542424 Lost all its hair, then grew it back again and went onto have 4 or 5 calves. Went very greasy first and came out in lumps, then very dry and dandruffy then gradually grew back.

Hey old boar do u wash oil out with water immediately afterwards?I would be tempted to give it a good groom, and then a line of baby oil along its back, and then brush down through the hair. Used to do this to heifers coming up for sale and they looked lovely afterward a quick wash for mart!
