At half past eleven, the other night, our local Whatsapp group pinged up a message....

"Bit of a strange one, but 7 people are walking backwards and forwards on the Warren."

One of the keepers on the estate that neighbours our grazing, on a SSSI known as the Warren, was out with a thermal imaging device and had spotted this activity over on our side of the boundary.

We lost some in lamb ewes from there in March just before they came home for lambing but these were in a 5 acre enclosure, with a handling pen in it, waiting to come home.

Catching hill ewes with lambs at foot, on the open Warren, would be a lot more tricky.

The keeper kept updating us with reports over the next hour..

"They haven't any dogs with them."
""They're making helluva noise now."
"I reckon it's a bunch of kids."
" They've got a tent in one of the woods."
"5 of them have headed off up Brackenholmes Lane."

The 4 of us in the conversation decided it wasn't worth turning out at that time of night and I said I'd have a look when I went shepherding the next day.

Found the tent straight away (the keeper had given it a what3words pin) ...

.. camp abandoned, nobody in it, just a bloody mess left behind..

Thers's bottles and cans scattered all over the place..

Alright, they shouldn't have been there, but they weren't hurting much if they'd had the decency to clean up after themselves.

Luckily it's been a wet time, leading up to this week, and their fire didn't present much of a danger but in a dry time the Warren can burn quite easily..

There's no wonder I hate people 🤬

Bloody hell, weird to leave that.

Do you think the aliens took them, or are they in a shallow grave
There was a bit of rain over night - I guess they abandoned camp when it started dripping in the tent 🤷‍♂️

Does look a bit like alien abduction though - everything is scattered around. Maybe the smell of Lynx deodorant (3 cans left) attracted the little green men :scratchhead:

we are not far from glasto, can hear the music if the winds right.

lot of money is earnt locally.

but you don't half see some sights, roads can be gridlocked. Never been, not exactly my 'scene', but the sheer size of it takes some believing, organisation, for about 3 days, is amazing.
I did the maths on it ,200000 ish at £350 a head ,,£70 million ,less all the expenses and artists fees ,,tax man must love him

and all food has to be bought from their suppliers, that's a money maker. But there's some very smart village halls locally, and schools get a good bung.

the local comp, has teacher training days fri/mon, they know absence will be high. Probably some teachers as well.

the 200,000 tickets, doesn't account for the other 200,000 helpers, car parkers, and a host of other jobs, they all get 'in' free.

All goes to charity I believe
not so sure on that, expenses can 'lose' a lot of profit. ;);)
I wonder if CND are still getting any, as in;
As this was, I believe, the original money spinner for his group.

1st one, or 2? were at the bath and west show ground, OM, like many other locals, took us kids for a drive past, to see the wierdo's. It was the height of flower power.

we, living in the countryside, never seen anything like it, except on telly. But, full marks to Mike, it took off, and 50+ years on, its still going, so many only lasted a few yrs, and folded.

l think every year, it gets more 'corporative', which is what will finish it off.

Daughter/husband, with her in-laws, and the grandkids, got in the papers last year, 3 generations attending.

Fairly standard for us at this time of year, kids finished exams and blowing of steam, make hell of a mess, given up confronting them in the evening, last time mum/dad tried that 30 of them threatened to throw them in the river (drunk and showing of to the girls), i'll go back in the morning with bin bags and "suggest" they have a tidy up before they go, all sorts of unmentionables get left behind, had one little twit couple of years ago lost his bank card (which I'd found) and had to come and ask, he had fun tidying up before card returned :)
