there are SMS Text messages and then there is Text.... You could use facebook messenger to send some text to someones phone who has facebook messenger installed on it... Other messaging services are available.. There are website services than can send out sms text messages to phone numbers for a small fee but I doubt any can accept reply messages back to you.

DA, I am like you! But I've had a mobile phone for a couple of months now as I work with horses and want something to call the undertaker on if the worst happens.

I discovered Lebara and pay £3.95 a month (haven't made any calls but suspect I get about three words for that!) and have a Doro phone (phone recommended for old farts). So far as I can see, you need to set the phone up for email.

This site tells you how. (I won't be bothering).

I'll ring the guy & give him my email or ask for his.

AND buy a fancy smart phone, essenitial sadly now. For photos to protect me proving the truth, mapping in town centres & ringing people, it will have to stay in tractor cab, can't stand a pocket full of gadgets.

Not sure
Also, if you work alone, get yourself a phone, it could literally mean the difference between life and death. You don't even need buy one, just ask around, a lot of folk have draws full of ones they don't use!
I would second this, I'm only young still, especially when compared to the average age of the farming population, and for a long time after all the other kids my age had phones of varying degrees of complexity.
A phone hasn't yet saved my life, but it has saved other people's lives.
I managed all my short life up until I got a phone, and 99.9% of the time it's not "essential" as such, but it's that one time you really need it that makes up for the bother the rest of the time.

Well, I bought one 6 months ago. I thought £10 time pay as you go would be alright for me. Switched it on a few days after I'd bought it, and chuff me sideways, my £10 had been used up. ? Went though the menu and switched stuff off. Bought another £10, and chuff me it got used up again whilst I wasn't looking:unsure:. Went through the menu, and switched more stuff off.
Was kinda hoping to at least get FB messages on it, even if it meant going back to the house to answer on the laptop.?‍♂️
Oh, you should get a contract people say with withering looks. Yeah. OK. I really don't want to spend a fortune just to send FB messages back and forth though.
