Been ask if I can provide some of our feed mix to a customer who has been purchasing cattle off us.
Would add up to a fair tonnage over 12 months.
Is is legal to do this? Made up of five ingredients. All bought it bar the Barley.

If you want to play by the book, have a discussion with your local ''Trading Standards'' officer.

But what do you mean by a fair tonnage? And if it helps, what would be the position if you and your neighbour were in some sort of cooperative - theoretical obviously.

Supplying feeds to another person is a nightmare if you intend to do it by the book (i.e legally). For starters, you would need a way of weighing the ingredients and keep a record of every mix made and sold. Then you have all the UFAS requirements, which are a nightmare.

Then you will have the issues if a beast goes ill, drops dead or he finds metal in the feed etc etc etc. It's a PITA.

Sounds like he house's your cattle for you and provides the labour you provide the feed and pay him a sum around the difference between what you would sell the cattle to someone and what they would sell them at when finished
Nop.
We sell him cattle, each month. Once they leave we dont see them again

Yep, I reckon you're right.
I'll veto the idea 👍

Only 10t, crack on. If it was 100's of tonnes then it would need doing legally, whatever that means. Everybodys scared of there shadows these days it seems.

The idea behind it is for gradual change of diet. He feels they are losing growth for too long
Why don't you do the change of diet before they leave your place.....
We do a soft weaning, transfer to the buyers diet and do the vaccinations for our buyer. Works really well, with little check to the calves and smooth transfer.
At a price of course....

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
