Can rolling alone kill leatherjackets in cereal crops?

Is it garlic based or have I dreamt that? Got lots of leatherjackets this year.. thinning a few areas of spring crops where green cover was thick. Would grow away with some wet though...

Mixture of Garlic and Aspirin. £20/ha plus water conditioner. LJ's slugs wireworms and nematodes.
One thing I am fairly sure about is it doesn't affect Cutworms but two methods of driving them to the surface where Crows will eat them or you can flat roll them.

I’m not sure rolling does much apart from making you feel better.

surely if you compact enough to kill the grubs it would over compact the soil?
