We were down in Carmarthen buying calves in November, when we went to pay, one of the dealers said "you're not paying now are you, I don't pay till I've reared and moved the calves on". That apparently is the problem, if buyers don't pay then the auctioneers can't forward the money onto vendors. It becomes a vicious circle. The new people running the mart should insist on prompt payment.

On JJ's statements they give you 14 days to settle, if you go over these terms constantly then you should have these terms taken away. Perhaps this will weed out the genuine payers.

I agree but you will find most markets allow the main buyers credit and it helps everybody , the market included. Its when 30day credit runs into 6mth or 12 mth credit the sh#t hits the fan. I was offered credit years ago on my first trip to carmarthen but i declined and have always paid, as i do at all markets. With the current calf/cattle trade look at the amounts you could rack up in credit in a very short time! Frightening.

Frightening indeed!

What would an artic of stores cost £30k+? Multiple buyers that is a huge amount of money.

If you buy out of Carmarthen yourself Werzle, I bet we have bumper into each other a fair few times without knowing!
