Case 895 alternator issue.

Hello all
My 895 had stopped charging and removed the alternator only to find the adjusting arm for the alternator has been butchered.
I would imagine this is pulling the alternator to the side once tightened and destroying bearings and brushes pretty quickly.
Anyone know what actually holds this in place, I'm thinking a bolt but would like to be sure.

Check the hole that goes through the timing case hasn’t worn away, had to make a new Bush and glue it in place as it was moving about, common thing on these tractors.

Thanks classichay. The bolt which is welded onto alternator bracket has a lot of play in that hole. What size should that bolt be and had it been threaded

I think they’re 13mm Nuts so m6 off the top of my head, I basically drilled the hole out and turned a bush the same diameter, make sure it’s square or you will knacker no end of bearings in alternators. Pm me if your stuck!

They are 5/16 UNC bolts with a 1/2” nut, not that it matters I suppose.
I’ve got the same problem with mine.
How did you stop drilling swarf going into the timing case, and what did you use for bushes?
I was wondering about fabricating a bracket that bolts to several of the timing case bolts like the 6cyl ones do but haven’t got round to it yet.
Reread your post and see you turned yours on a lathe. Sounds like the perfect solution but no good to me unfortunately.

Hi andy. I got 9 mm bar and threaded it. It fitted perfectly into the hole and screwed it upright. I put two nuts on end of bar and fitted adjuster bracket. Holds well so time will tell. Classichay had made a Bush on lathe
