Change Case MX 170 for Case Puma 165 CVX

I have started to think about changing one of my old MX 170 for a small body Puma 165.

Anyone who got both of them and can compare their on field performances a bit? The Puma would be my main drilling tractor and has got to manage my old Monozentra, my Väderstad Rapid 400 and my Amazone EDX. The old Monozentra will of course not cause any problems. The Rapid should be ok as well because it has not got system disc and we have flat fields. However the mounted EDX might be a problem, as it is really heavy when fully loaded. Usually I run it on my oldschool CVX 195 but if I could use it on a Puma 165 it might be what makes me buy the tractor because then it would make sense to go with gps steering. I have tried it on my MX 170 and it worked but it didnt really feel like it would be a good combo in the long run. Also I might use it for my Krone triples as well if it has gps steering.

So what do you guys think? Would the Puma 165 be allround enough to both handle my row crop onions as well as my maize drilling with the EDX?

Anyone who put them both over the weighbridge? I think the MX weight is absolutely minimum, I would like if the Puma was a bit heavier...

I might be wrong but is the 165 the biggest short wheel base model, could you go for the smallest long wheel base so it’s more on top of the job weight wise, I’ve a 155 and a 185 as main line tractors and you can tell the difference weight wise when you use either the mower or hedge cutter on them, 185 feels much more planted.
 
Landlord got shut of his 165 puma because the ride quality was so bad ,nearly crippled his driver
...or perhaps the wrong colour for the driver.
I have spent quite a lot of time driving 30 series John Deeres, but chose to buy a Puma for my self. Driven back to back there is no real difference in ride quality compared to a 6930.
Certainly a better ride than a 4 cyl 30 series

Have had few other brands on demo and the case is not the best for comfort that’s for sure, but they are cheap and with good spec so that ticks the boxes for the farm owner, maybe that says a lot for how much he values me :cautious::p
 
As @Matt77 says above,
The 165 is a swb Puma, and is just a little bit lighter than your mx170. It will have a good bit more power if your work will alow boots to kick in. Mowing certainly will, low speed pulling won't.
The lwb Pumas are a little bigger, but are definitely a lump heavier and more substantial. I believe they are in the reagon of two tons heavier, and have lift capacity to match their weight.

Did all the tractors tried have the same wheel equipment and checked to be running at the same pressures?
The 6930 I drive is on the same wheel equipment and pressures as my Puma, and I would say there is little between them.
In my opinion, the cab suspension and seat makes a bigger difference to the jarring you back receives when you are already in pain. You are sat over the rear axle after all.
The front suspension more affects the pitching for and aft.

I feel the lwb Pumas will replace my CVXs one day but when it comes to replacing the MXs I think they are a bit to big because of the row crop work I do with the onions. I was kinda hoping the swb Pumas could offer some versatility...

If I could have done all the jobs described earlier then it would be my "main" tractor. Having the CVXs for the more heavier pulling tasks.

I’ll agree with that. Not sure how the driver would have got on in pre suspension days .
