Declining to pay a pennie of inheritance tax, clogging up the news with continual shyte about the coronation, demanding folks swear allegiance at their TV, 5 robes stitched of gold all In the middle of the alleged cost of living crisis, Vegan quiche, mates with Schwab. Can’t be long before there will be an uprising.

Take it you will not be ensconced in front of the telly Saturday?

Personally I think God Save the King. Was a very interesting documentary about the history of the corination through the ages by david starkey on GB news last night, well worth a watch.

Barristers have to.

I can imagine Dan's face 🤣
I have only had to swear an oath of allegiance once, joining the Army*. When I was called to the Bar there wasn't one that I recall, it was solely about promising to act without 'fear or favour'. Anyway, I'm many years out of it now, so it wouldn't apply to me anyway, perhaps things have changed in this regard over the last decade... Now... Judges do have to take an oath of allegiance to the current Monarch.

*Something has just made me wonder if the Services have to 'retake' their oaths of allegiance. But I don't think so, because it was to heirs and successors as well.

I'd like to see that, history not my thing and never was (dropped it at school at the earliest opportunity!), but Starkey is always worth watching or listening to.

Do you know if they have a "catch up" channel or anywhere you can watch things after the initial broadcast?

What harm does it do? I quite like the pomp and ceremony, it's a good showcase to the world. Like it or not, the royal family is what we're known for across the globe. Go to the States, its amongst the first question you get when they establish you're a Brit. They love it. I had a really interesting conversation with a staunch republican German a few years ago, he reckoned that the UK had mastered the blend of the monarchic power structure and he lamented the majority of Europe's royal dynasties falling by the wayside.

The modern monarchy area bit of an ornament to modern life anyway, a sort of reality show which is real. They are an important link to our long history and in my opinion act as a bit of lynchpin for society. Plus, like every family, every generation has a few headbangers which keep us well entertained.

He’s hardly doing it in the privacy of his own home though. Great chance to modernize the royal family and he’s going back 100 years focusing on this divine righteousness nonsense.

I think the point is the symbolism of it all.

There's no point a royal family if they're not going to act like a royal family, and that is that they are different, they are elavated etc. That is the point

On balance I think the Royal family are a force for good.

You can have Nicola and Peter as your head of state to open your village halls

I’m not anti royal. I just think it might have been more sensitive if they’d turned it down a bit and scrapped some of the hocus pocus and expense.
And I think asking people to pay homage went a bit far. We have a Parliament that limited the kings powers. That should be respected. But I wish all well on a landmark day for the country and hope people enjoy it.
