For tens of years we have planned our sheep on three different farms all having had various private water supplies to the sheep shed .and always had a problem with joint ill in Lambs.
Last due to moving the controls of our borehole. We used mains water all through lambing nothing else was changed and we have very few lamb's with joint ill it may be a coincidence but I was wondering weather it could be due to bacteria in the water .So this year I am thinking about either running on mains water water again or or trying to chlorinate the borehole has anybody got any tips on how to do this thank you

@neilo ,you still using it?

No early lambers here this year, so not at the moment, but I certainly will be when we do start. I'm on mains water here, so I can't treat it easily, I just colonise the sheds using Pruex instead.

@chaos , you could speak to Aled at Pruex about it, or the more usual way of killing bacteria in borehole water is to fit a uv treatment unit, sterilising it that way.

Can chlorinate in one of two ways.

1. Bomb the borehole itself with chlorine tablets. Shocks the system but you’d want to flush it through before using

2. IBC or 20 litre drum of hypochlorite and a dosatron linked to the input pipe.
