Did anyone read this in the farmers guardian?
I thought it was a bit bad naming the farm owners only?

I thought the same....if the farm is being run by a 3rd party contract farming company, surely they are the ones with a duty of care to the animals, not the landowner. Perhaps someone has enough influence at FG to get some selective editing

Evolution are only a management company, I believe the cows are owned by the estate and the estate will be up on all the laws as to what enables it to class as a farmer for IHT purposes. Therefore the buck stops with the owner. Certain people want contract farming to be responsible if things go wrong but further down the line claim total responsibility elsewhere unfortunately you cannot pick and choose. However you can be certain that the estate will be either having some stern words and different wording into the management contract going forward to enable it to pass the buck onto the management company or it will be looking for another management company/ expert manger in dairy.

I can see what you mean by stating the buck stops with them but if you say ran 2 holdings and set a manager on for the second holding would you expect them to do there job and take full care?
You've set them on in good faith after there experience etc.

Unfortunately any manager is only ever an employee. Yes they might have certain incentives(bonuses/rewards) in the contract but the buck always stops with the owner of the business. If the manager is found to be in breach of certain rules etc either possibly grounds for dismissal or retraining depending upon severity and ultimately it is owner of business who will make that decision.

I thought he meant they were not there anymore by "ran"
I'd heard they'd been kicked out but 🤷‍♂️
July the agreement comes to an end in Cheshire and Norfolk. I don’t think we will see much of the evolution name anymore. A job on another of there farms is being advertised under a different name
