For many, the cost of having a horse destroyed and disposed of is going to be outside their means, but that's what needs to be done in a lot of cases. Now that is something that ought to be subsidised. They'd rather sell "cheap to good home" (if they can, so passing the problem on) as the rescues are full. Crunch time will probably come in the New Year, especially if we have another hard winter. Nobody seems to be facing up to the problem yet though the vet tells me they are putting down a lot of old horses.
