Christmas working

What do employers ask their staff to work over Christmas?
I worked one one dairy farm for 4 years. In them 4 years I worked every Christmas morning and night and every Boxing day night and morning. In this time one of me bosses (father and son) had a holiday one year over Xmas and the other only worked one Xmas night with me but then did have boxing night off. Don't really matter anymore as I left as soon as could, working for a top bloke now and not really fused if I work over Xmas as work is a joy again. Just after farmers opinions

Think I’ve got my cow man a 4 day wkend Off this year With kind and well paid reliefs. I thought similar last year until had to knock on his door at 4.00am as relief man locked himself out of house and car.
minimum jobs for 10 days with few hours middle of day off for all.
helped that relief in lockdown and staying local for Christmas

Of course it partly depends whether the employer is capable of doing the job. I worked as an assistant herdsperson on a farm owned by a 70 year old widow and I wouldn't have expected her to do the milking. There was me and the herdsman, plus a couple of arable/GFW. I worked Christmas/Boxing Day, with an hour or so help from a GFW for bedding down; the herdsman worked New Year's Eve and New Year's Day with the same help from the other GFW. Next year we swapped.

Best bit was the boss coming out and insisting I came for a drink on Boxing Day as she was hosting the basset hounds (she was a joint master).

Herdsman and 2ic alternate Xmas and New year day, and from 24th till the 2nd its bare minimum jobs.
Wife and I do both at our place. Done by 7.30am and 2 hours in the afternoon isnt the end of the world either
Was never offered the opportunity to alternate just expected to roll in. Was ok for him to get time off hence why I left much happier now

Sounds good. There was no doing the minimum jones either for 10 days over Xmas apart from bank holidays and weekends was expected to be there all day. Sometimes even doing pointless tasks like sweep the yard! Ex bossseemed to like having power over people, moved jobs now anyway and looking forward to Xmas and would enjoy going in as work is a pleasure in new job

Here we have the staff in Christmas eve, put a big day in. Then I manage Christmas and boxing day on my todd. Usually quite busy Christmas day but do very little on boxing day as that's the day we get together with the outlaws.

I normally do christmas day, boxing day and new year not really a huge amount to do and gets me out of the house. I used to quite happily go from the pub to the parlour at new year but dont think i could handle that anymore!

Nobody requested Christmas off this year. I think I’ll have whoever is on that day come in and milk then I’ll feed the rest of the day. Just OAD that day, minimum as Possible. I’m single and don’t care about Christmas.

Our payment system will have to be changed to pay earlier as it would fall on the 24th. They aren’t the greatest about budgeting their money.

We do holidays like weekends. Off every other and only doing bare minmum jobs. We are too many for me just give them all the days off.
They make the plan by themselves if they can agree, and i do if they can't. i don't remember when i had to interfere last time. I usually work almost all the days, so they have to work as little as possible.

Christmas to New year is just in at milking times only.
I need 3 men there at each milking, one of them being me. Staff decide between themselves whos off and what day.
Everthing gets stuffed up well Christmas eve, rings full of bales, pens bedded plenty of straw etc.
