Cisco 7841 VoIP phone connection

I've setup a VoIP landline to save old landline number
( wasn't going to but it was cheap to save number so I did it )

Took a punt on getting the above phone off net for £10 ( knew it would be bit of a mare to get going )
Bareing in mind I know nowt about technology and it does my head in 🤯
Plugged it in and nothing happens , looked on YouTube and talks about configuration / pin codes / hard reset / soft reset ! I've about had enough all ready ...

There's a port on back to plug it into power socket but I understand the internet cable will fire it up without the need for power socket 🤷

Anyone got a simple methodical process of what I need to do on what looks like the most complicated thing just to plug a phone in...

Presume this plug should fire it up from the router

VoIP can be an absolute bloody nightmare to setup, it shouldn't be, but it can be....

Your Cisco will almost certainly require a power supply for starters, there is no power coming from the router.

I was having issues with a cheap little unit off eBay, as it would not autoconfigure with the provider. I got a recommendation from them and blew some money on a new Yealink which was in comparison, a joy to use, but won't work with our old DECT phones, which is a shame.

yes for some reason VOIP phones on a internet connection seem like hard work.
Why cant they just work when you plug them in like a computer does when you plug that ethernet connector in eh.
But when they do work by heck there cheap to run.

All the ones I've seen on youtube just plug the internet line in , why is everything so difficult 🤬

So need to find a compatible power supply now , wasn't bothered about having no lead with it because thought power would come from ethernet line !

You'll need a POE switch or POE injector to send power down the network cable first......

If you've got a struggle on with giving it power, you may have many more with setting it & your router up for voip !
Ok what do I do to get power down the ethernet cable that hasn't got power going down it now ,
what have I got to do differently from plugging one end into router and other end into phone ?

You will need to enter the various voip account settings into the phone, and may need to open some ports on the router to allow traffic to the voip service.
So looks like if I buy one of these that will power the phone via ethernet cable and then the next journey is to configure phone once it's powered then ....

I'd probably get the Cisco one as there is acouple of poe standards not interchangeable.

Possibly needs to be 802.3.af class 2.

Back again ...🙄

Phoned service provider to run through setup and came up with the message below and he don't know quite what else he could do about it .
This was after all the login data was put on !
Is there a specific setting I need to change to make it accept the connection 🤷

Looking at the Cisco support pages, I found the following.

I may be wrong, but it looks like the phone doesn't know where it needs to connect to via IP.

Yes did see that when looking ,

the chap on fone from the phone line provider to what I could interpret was talking along same lines " phone can't find internet"
I used a PoE injector initially which lit the fone up but we thought it may be this causing issue so I got the proper power line for it and done ethernet and power separately but got same results as before !

Is it some setting on the fone that needs changing or some setting on n the router for them to marry up ? 🤷

Do I need to change / input IP details into the fone from what it says on the router 🤷

I'll grab a cup of tea and then have a skim through the manual, see if we can find out what's going wrong (y).
