Putting a discordan together. We will probably just keep in on the 4610 as we don’t have a Challenger.

I agree with your sentiments. Funny how I can jump on that tractor which is 36 years old, with no consideration that it won’t do a day or a weeks work reliably. About all you need is a spare fuel filter because they do run a very fine filter which can partially block and reduce the power.

Hi Zero, forgive my ignorance, but what are the basics of the Same tractor engine? Is it their own or is it Fiat, Perkins or some other derivation?

Basic is definitely the right description! It's an air cooled Same engine. Not sure how many litres but its 4 cylinder, 80 horsepower ish and each pot has its own injector pump..

I like the aircooled Deutz and Same engines the most because it is extremly easy to keep them runnig.
They do not only have a seperate head, they also have seperate engine block. Each piston has its own parcel.
You just have to keep the cooling fins clean and dry and you are good to go if you arent pressuring it stationary to much with low rpm.
Neighbour has one for 50 Years now, 30000hrs still going strong in front of the feeder waggon.
The best thing is how easy it is to repair it, pull the head, pull the cylinder, new piston, new cylinder and then you can test the volume of the combustion chamber with solder (official way as described in the service manual by Deutz) and if necessary place spacers under it. It can be done on the field if needed, done that actually and repaired it probably in the winter when the harvest was over.

We had a 4wd one, first 4wd we had, would climb a brick wall but was gutless, possibly because we didnt give it enough hard work when new,
We also had a 4wd many years ago. Ours went well. I bought this 2wd as its in better condition than some of the 4wd's I saw at the time.
This one goes well but there's not much between the engine and pto to sap power like modern tractors do..

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
