Not seen a double four sledge for years,my father bought a flat 8 in about 1970 but it was a pain on the ridge and furrow so bought the cooks double four, we used it until mid 1990's, was great but meant you needed someone on the trailer so went to a flat eight window sledge and 56 bale squeezerA spot of baling yesterday.
I would have thought that a decent flat 8 accumulator and grab plus the 40/56 bale trailer could be found s/h at very reasonable prices. [But avoid the Farmhand accumulator as they are a nightmare in so many respects.] I personally would go for a Meijer as they are so simple. If we were doing many more small bales then we would most likely change to the flat 8 (or 10 @Flat 10 ) system and get a squeeze trailer. However that would mean significant changes at building level, as well as the investment needed in the grab, sledge and trailer. Never say never though!
I learned how to load wagons with one of them on a MF35 industrial with a home made height extension thing onThe bale squeeze
Proper British farming at its best!
