We've still got our old RP12 as a standby and it was always fine for hay and silage, but dry oat straw drove me potty as the bales would stop spinning no matter what advice you took to stop it. Good tough old thing though :)
I went into a ten acre hay field at mid day once. At 4 I still had not made a bale. I painted the rollers with old paint n threw sand on them. Never stopped for the next hundred

and this one has not had to much use by the looks of it! seems to have been in the back of a shed for some time!
Worst bit about them was the drive gearboxes going pop. The lowest point in the box is the output shaft to the bed to so any metal filings and crap will sit around the bottom bearings.
Later boxes had a re circulation pipe which helped.

It's only an hours job to lift the box out. Take the bottom shaft out and give it a wash out and some new bearings.
While you're at it there are 2 uj's on the shaft from the box down to the bed which never get greased and can sit in water

This one has the recirculation pipe fitted. I will lift gearbox over winter and check UJs Thanks for advice!
