Clean Air Day 2021

Thursday 17th June 2021 is Clean Air Day; a day dedicated to highlighting the issues of air pollution that in turn emphasise the changes in our everyday lives which can and will have a positive impact on climate change.

This year’s Clean Air Day is focused on how the future of our children’s health is heavily influenced by air pollutants. Currently, cities are responsible for 70% of the worlds CO2 emissions. While this may seem like an insurmountable challenge, there are a plethora of opportunities to combat this effectively.

Individuals and businesses making small changes in tandem can have a large impact on reducing CO2 emissions, there are the obvious initiatives such as using public transport, walking more and recycling. However, there are other changes that can be made which will have a greater impact on your own carbon footprint such as transferring to renewable energy There is also a steep increase in government initiatives supporting the move to low carbon technologies such as electric and hydrogen powered vehicles and central heating systems in homes.

Oxbury as a business, believe that a fantastic way of both contributing to our countryside, while reducing the pollutants in the atmosphere is carbon sequestration. The process of capturing and storing carbon from the environment through processes such as tree planting and different farming practices. Understandably, not everyone has the accessibility to plant their own trees, that’s why unique initiatives like Oxbury Forest Saver, the first carbon mitigating savings account through tree planting help to make it a simple process.

Working collectively with Forest Carbon, mitigating your carbon footprint while protecting your savings for a fixed-term is a unique and simple way of making a difference. With a standard saving account, the interest builds and adds onto the balance at the end of each month or year, depending on the account. However, with Oxbury Forest Saver, the earned interest goes towards planting trees at a dedicated forest located at Ruddenley's Farm in the Scottish Borders.

Our online calculator allows you to convert your savings into the amount of carbon mitigated, trees planted and the amount of money you are contributing to the environment.

The collective effort of individuals and businesses working together towards reducing their carbon footprint is key to actively making a difference. That’s why, at Oxbury we are entirely carbon neutral. Which means, that as a bank, no employee, product, or initiative has increased any carbon production in the UK.
