Cleaning up a fergie

Hi guys have finally got my TEF20 running and I’m happy with it, I’d now like to clean it up a bit especially around the engine block.

Would I be right in spraying some degreaser and then steam cleaning it? Or is there a better way?

Could also do with finding the engine number which appears well hidden at the moment.

Degrease and steam would work well. Think the engine no. is on the block above/behind the dynamo....or thereabouts,and should begin with ''SA''.
@REStracTORATION might know better....
I wouldn't know off top of my head not done much with these sorry,
Yes as agrimax says, some strong detergent and hot power washer is the only way, let the detergent work before washing off too don't buy cheap crappy stuff either
Then if want to clean the tarnished metal brass items a little use scotchbrite if you want them beaming that takes a little more and have to be polished really

Thank you both, I’ll get onto it. Have been told the engine number is behind the fuel pump but I couldn’t see it there, I’ll get it cleaned up and take a look.

Think it's t'other side just above the dynamo I believe. I use petrol to get the worst off then steam clean but detergent would probably be better especially if you have a hot wash steam cleaner.

I think all Lofty’s rule

Thanks for the advice, found the engine number this morning and was visible which is great. Will get a steam cleaner on hire and get it cleaned up.

Debating whether to have it resprayed or leave it in its original condition

Photos of how original it looks
Original is better if it looks honest and doesn't resemble a derelict shed.

Neither does a faked up effort in an argument with a brush

Hot wash was more for around the engine to remove the black crud rather than the paint work.
