Has anyone come across this and has any advice

In sheep? There are several types, which are responsible for such things as pulpy kidney in lambs, etc.

Clostridial vaccines like Bravoxin, Covexin, Heptavac, etc are very effective in controlling it, thankfully.

Not sure you can do much as regards treatment, as you usually just find them dead anyway.

If you got cattle dying of black leg you want to give them all a jab of bravoxin and a big jab of pen strep asap to limit deaths.
Blackleg is a highly fatal bacterial disease that affects cattle and sheep, and is caused by the soilborne bacterium Clostridium chauvoei.
Is Clostridium Perfringens not more usually associated with food poisoning caused by not cooling cooked meat quickly and not storing it at below 5 deg C before eating? Spores heat resistant and produce a heat resistant toxin resulting in D & V 6 plus hours after eating.
