For the frugal. Do minerals expire?

I have just been into the local Mole Valley and, as is my want, bought 250 selenium and cobalt sheep boluses at 75% off. I have done this sort of thing many times in the past with things like blocks, boluses and minerals. I have always operated under the assumption that in a dried, powdered form...

Shearlings Having Weak and Premature Lambs

We have a batch of a 100 Shearlings that have just started lambing that are causing a concern. Unusually we can trace the history of these since birth, so all home bred. First 12 months after weaning grazed away on a farm with no other sheep. They did have an issue with wormer resistance but...

    Under Dosing Heptavac P

I made a mistake with the calibration of my injector and gave my in lamb ewes 1.5ml approximately of Heptavac P instead of the required 2ml. I can’t really afford another bottle but would I be best advised to do them again?

    Ewes Aborting.

Two nights ago we had jets playing low level chase tag round us. We have established that they come from RAF Lakenheath. There was no warning of low flying on the government website, although that may not have made any difference. We have now lost 8 lambs aborted before term. They're about 3...

? Heptavac P Plus safe after 10 hours

Hello, I wanted to ask if anyone has used the hep p plus vaccine after 10 hours if it's kept in the fridge and its made airtight - or do you dispose of remaining doses regardless? I haven't done it - as I didn't think to ask the question before jabbing the sheep, but had to waste a lot last...

    Ewes and fluke dosing

We had a wet winter and grazed some pretty sudden winter keep. I had a big issue loosing ewes last lambing that the vet was pretty hopeless with helping. Did get PMS done and nothing conclusive. After lambing about june I bit the bullet and dosed the lot with cydecrin triclomox and it cleared...

    Heptavac and footvax

Hello there, I’ve got to send our ewe Hoggs away this week and in theory I won’t need need to see them again until march. they currently need a second footvax and heptavac. How long between the two jabs would people recommend? I know longer the better would be ideal, but would 24 hours be long...

    HeptavacP

I have never double dosed my sheep with Hep P. I just give them a single dose every year 4-6 weeks before lambing. Is this a total waste of time or does it give them some protection? I've never had a problem health wise so far touch wood !!

    Covexin 8/10

Hi, I used Covexin 8 to vaccinate all my breeding stock, but this is now impossible to come by. Will giving them a booster of Covexin 10 still cover the stock for the original diseases? Lambs have been started on Heptavac instead, but don't want to start a brand new (significantly more...

    Blue Tractor Assurance Scheme

I would like to propose a new farm assurance scheme, all that is required is an annual review to ensure that a farm business complies with current legislation. There will be no gold plating of any legislation, just a simple check, either by uploading documents or by a farm visit.

    Vet Attestations and a "VAN"

Just picked up a catalogue from my local market for this Fridays store cattle and sheep sale, and noticed on the back, all sellers have to have a "VAN" by December 13th. The catalogue always has a column for "FA" or just left blank if the farm is not. Why cant we now just have "VA" instead of FA...

    Heptavac & rain

I need to 2nd dose a group of shearlings by next weekend, but every time I’ve tried to do it, it’s hammered it down 🤬 Today was meant to be dry but it’s currently torrential rain. Do I do them when they’re wet? Can’t keep them in unfortunately. Not sure if it’s best to do it in the time frame...
