Coldstore rough cost?

Was looking at 60x40, just after a rough cost if you're happy to share? As I understand I can offset 100% of cost against profit vs just 3% for a standard shed

Panels are panels (within reason), but can be quite a price difference for the fridge. Depends if you are putting produce in cold or warm, weight of produce (big factor), produce from whole store rotated daily, etc.

Someone who is used to building supermarket cold stores will be expecting goods in at 4°C. They aren't used to calculating cooling requirements of field temp produce, so watch for that. They start scratching their heads.

We've just installed one for a herb grower. He wanted a vacuum cooler really, but was just starting up in business so compromised with a cold store.

There are second hand panels available, but availability depends on what height is required. What height pallets are you on?

My brother is the expert. I'll ask him tomorrow (not my department).

Type of produce is relevant.

That is one issue I had with mine, took a longish time to get down to 3 degrees from 15.

Yes, needs calculating correctly. Also depends what electric supply is available, so sometimes a compromise.

What are you refrigerating?

Can be done quickly if you're prepared to spend on kit and have plenty of power. Might stand corrected when I speak to bro tomorrow, but think he built a machine to take 20 tonnes down from 25°C to 4°C in under 30 mins. It does use a bit of electric!!!

He was in Amsterdam last week. 800t of flowers a day to cool iirc.

Looking to store crates of plants stacked on pallets. Will be precooled before going in but will need to be frozen down to -1.5 within a week of storage. Planning on there being plenty of space between pallets.

Great shout on the electric. Site hasn't been connected yet so I have a chance to get it set up to requirement

Fridge gas has gone from being for nowt 10 years ago to silly money. Can come to a significant sum on a big system.
It's a big consideration. Chap has a system (not built by us) with fridge kit at one end of a big building, but evaporator at other end. Refrigerant leaked out and cost £12k for the gas. That was a couple of years back, so dread to think what cost would be today!

So need to think about the system. Original installer should have used glycol to pull from.

Not normally an issue, as often simply have kit either side of an external wall.
