Can't get it yet, it was a purely hypothetical question.I do think it's attainable but can't see it getting a hell of a lot more. Merchant is already talking the market down.
its their job, raison d etre and i agree onwards and upwards, look at it this way walk round your fields can you be confident of achieving record yields ,can you be confident of achieving your 5yr average today, im thinking most of us will say no or maybe with a bit of luck

renaultman has made the point at what price will some of us sell for harvest, no one has yet come forward and said they will sell for todays harvest price and those doing prior early forward sales are conspicuous by their absence so are we in bluff or double bluff territory

In the middle.
I'm not sure what has gone on today in the grain trade but the fact I've had 3 traders on the phone today trying to buy the wheat left in my shed still at the same price it was two weeks ago makes me think they might think the stuff my be I demand soon.

My winter barley looks like shite and I am worried l have over sold:( it's that bad. Was sold quite well in a previous market peak but miles from the £150 others are hoping for. Not selling a grain more unless prices rise massively.

you only need a trader to talk up the black sea yield and fall it will!!!

And there in lies the problem: Russia / FSU look like producing a decent yield. Winter cereals came out of dormancy a month earlier than usual, and recent rain means moisture is adequate. This might just kick the legs out from European markets... (n)

It kicks the legs out of most markets....regardless of the actual situation....its a lever they can pull...and i suspect make more money out of paper than touching the crop...

I am not a fan of futures, if people want to secure crop they should do it direct with farmer/supplier....once its on wall street you deal with greed.

Futures were originally developed by farmers and merchants to help both sides manage risk. These days it seems that greed on the farmers behalf has made them untrustworthy of a mechanism which was originally developed with the purpose of stopping them losing money. Now you have people saying that at 150 quid they wouldn't sell.... it seems the 'wall street are not the greedy ones....

ahhh, a fellow Amanda Holden fan!!! I thought it was just me! The only problem I'd have with her, is every time I got to the vinegar strokes I'd get a mental image of Les Dennis doing his trade market Mavis Riley impression.....I'd be on for ages.

Actually now you mention Riley.....uhm swap Amanda for Rachael Riley ;)
