It should £300 a ton .

Was thinking this the other day when saw a contractor harvesting for a neighbour.

Assumed £35/ac combining cost, and a 3.5t/ac crop, it costs £10 a tonne just to take it from the stalk and put it in a trailer.

Good job the wheat price isn't hovering around the £100-120 mark it has been not long ago!

We had a contact for otter like that, they screwed us over as soon as the spot price dropped! Had two great years on it though.

Who was that? PM me if you'd rather not name & shame in a public forum. I'm interested in growing it on a small area but I can't make the figures work vs a 2 row feed doing 3 t/ac fairly cheaply.

This Friday 27th, looking at the way they've risen today.

I could sell my Montana for May movement at about £235 at today’s feed base price plus the quality premium - if I did that it would be the highest priced tonne of wheat to ever leave this farm

I think there is another £15-20 in the feed base yet though

Beyond the magic £200 though I see a lot of livestock production getting mothballed

Futures up to 187

Not sold anything yet from this harvest but like many up here keeping a close eye on that as got a malting barley contract that takes average of this weeks closing Nov futures +£20 if you haven’t fixed already.
The other 50% on that contract is harvest spot price which looks like turning out the better option for a change.

i thought we may have heard from shakerator as he is the one who was predicting 200/t for this year before last xmas, Still time, but so far ive around 15 folks who have committed to a date for may 19 futures to reach 200 . one or two have not made it clear wether they mean spot price or the may futures but for the purposes of the £200 gin challenge will use their chosen date as being for may and not spot . there has been a further rise today and 13 out of the 15 say it will happen before september, time will tell but its only£8 away now, any one else care to make a prediction before 12pm tommorrow
