I wouldent sell him anything.he has the reputation no one would never want,sold him some straw probably ten years ago.pee'd us about something rotten and then took a year to pay.no one round here will have anything to do with him.tosser

No, just had crushed concrete in past, I could pm you a number for my local straw merchant ? I don't know how there're fixed though.
If the straw merchant is in the dereham area ive been warned to avoid him too.another who does not pay his bills.the chap who normally has it,has a lot left over from last year.chopper is the way to go i think.

Depending on final yields for the Tower if you grew both on the same land type do you think the extra inputs for Volume would be worth it?

Also which is yielding the most/ best sample of straw?

I'll finish cutting the Tower in a day or two when rain permits, then I'll post up some figures on average yield & V costs for both for this harvest.

So far, the Volume has been well worth it. I have grown it for 5 years now & have recouped the extra spend every time except 2011 when it was grown on poor land & didn't get treated with the respect it needs. The gap in gross margin has been variable but Volume has always done better overall.

The straw yield has been higher with the hybrid but with hot weather most of the time my rotary combine has really smashed it up. The Tower has taken a lot more threshing to get the grain out of the ears but the straw quality has been better thanks to closing the concave but slowing the rotor. The Volume was threshed at at higher rotor speed & wider concave & more straw damage.
