Compost Turner

Just wondering if you (@Fuzzy ) kept working on your turner? Considering something similar. Wondering is it as good (and cheaper) to make some sort of a fork to go on the 360 to try and get air into it better than a wide toothed bucket.
Yes it is an ongoing project, not helped by non related breakdowns/repairs and drill mods. I have all the steel now, and the blades (bedformer type) I hope to get back on it next week. I have a 4m x 300mm piece of tube for the rotor and just need to find a decent power harrow gearbox !
We are using a telehandler fork atm which does a good job getting air into the row, but i think if i can mix it properly i will get a much better more consistent product.

That's fantastic news. Would love to see a few updates on here if you get back at it please. Are you making one of the folding ones with a big counter weight?
Have you seen decent results with the compost you have been making with the telehandler?
I was reading elsewhere on here that the weather can make it tricky to keep the heap aerobic. Any views on that? Do you clever cover it over?
Any help much appreciated

Excuse the ignorant question, but does the pusher axle mean you don't need a creeper box on the tractor, and just put it in neutral?

Also, what happens to the spool block on the front- doesn't look like it goes in the cab?

Thanks

Thats right we didnt have creeper box in tractor so just put it in neutral and lower wheels and it pushes you along. You can adjust flow on the valve. Its set up to reach out back window to work machine. The 1 to push you locks down so you dont need to hold on to it

We made compost from green waste for a few years. After a lot of messing about I found that just leaving it alone worked pretty much as well as burning diesel to move it every five minutes.

I suppose it depends on how much air is in it. If there's plenty then turning not as important is my understanding. Would love to learn more, especially for strawy farm yard manure and also chicken litter. Any experience would be welcome

I ran the pallet forks of the tractor through the heap a few times to get air into it set about 2 foot apart. it wasn’t a massive heap but I thought it was a pretty economical way to get it moved about. Was working well, but boss man insists Iceland is too cold to do what I was planning and we had a bit of an argument so I forgot about it and it got dumped out in the field in heaps to get blown about.
They are very wasteful with muck up here.
