Condensation in shipping container

You want 10 vents minimum really, dont site them so no airlow to vents. Insulation helps but what are you storing? If your puttting something wet or damp in there it will cause condensation. Only condensation we get is the people who store mowers and the like, dry furniture paperwork etc never a issue.

Any good ideas as to how to minimise condensation in containers?

Anti condensation paint on the roof helps hugely, foam is better. Ply lining is supposed to be good. I have seen the foil lined bubble wrap, but was told by a user it didn't work for him....

As other have said, plenty of vents kept open. I have wondered about a secondary roof as suggested by @Skintagain and might try it on one container which is dinged. I keep bikes in one near the house and always try and let the bike dry outside before storing.

When we moved house, we (Mrs teslacoils) had so much crap (vital essentials) I bought a shipping container that had been foamed and vented from new. Has stored all sorts for four years and is fine. Mattresses, paper all sorts. Container is kept under old pike barn.

Park things in dry and it'll stay dry inside, otherwise ply lining with kingspan behind stops condensation as does kingspan/ styrofoam sheets bolted to the outside with a tin sheet outer shell. But you'll still have a puddle under any machine thats put away wet. In which case it wants setting an inch or so lower at the door end to let the water out.

We have a 20 ft container racked out as a bolt store it dripped inside , as a temporary measure we put 3 timbers across the roof and a couple of composite panels on top held down with a couple of old load all tyres as a temporary measure about 10 years on it’s still has the tyres on top and it’s as dry as a bone inside

Two things to help.
1) Make sure nothing goes in wet, and I mean nothing.
2) Treat the roof and the first 300mm sides ( from the top ) with Grafotherm.

I have 60 self storage containers, all bought as single trip and treated with Grafotherm, the contract states nothing goes in that is wet or creates moisture. In 4 years I have not had a problem with condensation.

Any rust coming through the Grafotherm, like on weld joints?

I bought a secondhand shipping container 8 years ago. It was sprayed completely inside with foam (the type they use on boats). It has been great but this last year it smells damp and if things are stored on top of one another they are turning mouldy (kids car seats).

Bought silver both sides bubble wrap used by shippers for ambient shipments, comes with double sided tape to affix, took me and the boy an hour to do inside of a 20ft container. Cooler in summer and warmer and condensation free in winter. Going to paint south facing side and roof in silver this spring as well.
