How very generous …….. How VERY condescending !

The open market can decide the value and we can decide if we want to sell at that price

“supermarket god complex reaches new levels” should have been your headline @Abi Kay

it’s a simple attempt to steal UK farmers carbon sequestration and biodiversity to offset their scope 3 emissions

that will allow them to continue to import cheap food without GFC and run their fridges and vans !

Aided and abetted by majority farmer funded Red Tractor, AHDB and NFU they even expect us to pay for the nose to hang us !

they have less than no money actually it seems !

…and therefore easy to get them to play ball. I’ve always thought that if farmers wanted to make a point we just need to target one supermarket chain at a time for a week by blockading the entrance to their car parks. It would be worth pointing out to the others that they were next.

“we have an enormous amount of pressure that comes from interest from customers about environmental footprint”

How did she manage to say that with a straight face? I'd be willing to bet that the average Morrisons customer doesn't even know what Red Tractor stands for, and gives even less of a toss about their "environmental footprint". What their customers care about, is price.

Everyone supplying a supermarket will have done some kind of audit procedure. I doubt this is going to lead to Morrison paying more for produce it’s probably going to allow them to get un audited produce cheaper.

GFC is RT all over again.

Puts extra cost on British producers, but no similar requirements for imports. Competitive disadvantage. Another nail, but this time it's a big one.
  • Mandatory 5% set aside.
  • Variable rate N (that's most livestock farmers and smaller arable producers having to spend £20k on kit)
  • Carbon audit time/cost
  • Supermarket/WWF commitments to reduce meat/dairy sales by 20%
  • etc.
