Contract finishing cattle

Anyone send their cattle elsewhere to be finished rather than sell them as stores, what are rough costs involved

Unless you know someone who has cheap/free feed and is not already finishing cattle then it is extremely unlikely the numbers will stack up over selling the cattle as stores.
Unless of course you want to be a gambler.

I used to do it the problem being there was hardly enough profit for one producer let alone two , I had two big bullocks catch virus pneumonia, lucky I did not lose them or that would have really messed it up

If someone was set up big time for finishing - access to feed, straw, and buildings would maybe be cheaper to take the cattle to them than bring in all of the above to the cattle. Economies of scale and all that.

I find it interesting there is more interest in contract pigs than contract beef. I can only assume the present situation with beef suits the processors and retailers more?

Some contact beef available. But limited numbers and feed is not supplied.

Most are not strictly contract in my mind. More the sell you the cattle, and the finance to buy them, then guarantee to buy them back once finished.
