I don't think Deere can be the only guilty party here.

Every brand seem to be at it.

With the dawn of a new era of driverless tractors and electric tractors fast approaching, this might be the end of an old era, much like transition from horse to tractor.
Can you imagine how much money a robotic tractor will be, probably getting on towards 300 to 500,000, I dont think i will be replaced here anytime soon, my job as a tractor driver is safe for now.:D

Without the driver in the cab, there won't be much point in having a big tractor, big tractors only exist to cut labour.
Instead we will probably have a flock of small, simple (apart from the gps)tractors pulling mini direct drills or whatever, and zero compaction.

Best thing we would be able to match the size of the flock to the farm rather than desperately trying to upscale the size of the farm to match the tractor.

At the end of the day every business needs to make a profit to survive. Do we really think machinery manufacturers can afford to knock 10-20k of the price because farming is struggling. Should a new pickup be 15k instead of 25k. Get real ! Can't afford it don't buy it !

Looking at change ing 3 for 2 tractors price to change will cover a lot of repairs if their needed
It's not going to happen here!

I think there are good deals to be had but it means pricing about. The new holland prices I had were spot on to be fair, very tempted..! Did hear there is a 3-4% increase in price on the 1st of October tho. I'd love to stick with John Deere but I can't justify pay quite a bit more for a tractor that won't do anymore than any other make will.

Got the NH dealer coming Monday morning, gonna see if we can do any kind of deal. Didn't want to do anything till December but kind of glad I did a little pricing now and found out about the increase.

I imagine the new field worker to be a bit bigger than an i phone and around the same price.
Looks after all operations, seeds hoes harvests one plant at a time.
May look like a big beetle perhaps.

Will it be a John Deere?
Could be they already do robot mowers and this is just a couple of steps forward.

I think the transition from tractor to robot is more of a problem than the invention of the robots themselves.
However the higher prices to change will actually make this easier.

Keep the existing tractor and equip 100 acres with robots may be the future

Said like a true salesman! I don't think I've ever bought anything new without that line being said.

Salesman said this to me when I was contemplating changing last tractor. The price was due to change in the next few days after he had quoted me. I told him I'll make a decision in the next couple of weeks and if the price has changed he will lose the sale. 2 weeks later we bought the tractor for the original quote.

He didn't say it in a pushy way and I get on with him fine, I guess he just didn't want to have to go back to massey and ask the question but no way am I getting bounced into buying anything.

believe what you want. but they are going up on 1st Oct. If a salesman has to use that every time he sells to you, I'd question why he has to say it and whether it's worth dealing with him. Kuhn have also just gone up, same with Lynx engineering and Opico, Can-Am etc... Most of them have a autumn price rise. I can't force anyone into buying, they either will or won't.

@Chae1 I don't bother with that, just lay out the facts its then up to you as a customer to decide, I can't force anyone and why should I? I've gone back to people in the past after a price rise and said I can't honor it and had to walk away. If I can't do it I can't do it simple as that.

He might have put a factory order through regardless of your own order on spec, as it were, to protect the price. If you didn't want it, he'd have a competitively priced tractor in stock to sell to someone else. Or, is not unknown for manufacturers to announce a price increase from a certain date to find that they are short of orders overall and delay the increase by a few weeks at short notice.

A lot goes on behind the scenes that customers aren't generally aware of.

The input industry started to shaft us 20 yrs ago and are now suffering slowly due to people going to more spring crops than winter crops or at the very least a 50:50 winter/spring crop cycle. Farmers have also sought other weapons such as fallow which ultimately means the input industry looses. They've adopted some precision in the job which again reduces input use.

Now it's the turn of the machinery boys. Not the dealers though as I'd think their margin per item has remained static. The manufacturers have seen the green light and I suspect got together to set percentage price increases.

Some of the figures quoted on here for price increases are just silly quite frankly for identical products. No way are those legitimate price increases, although I'm sure if pushed there's a story ready to be read out justifying it.

However unless farmers as a whole just stop buying, then I'm afraid the manufacturers will continue to take the proverbial and push.

The last point to remember is as a very small island and even smaller food producing country out market is somewhat irrelevant, so many manufacturers have a take it or leave it approach to the UK. They will be given annual financial reports from so called experts detailing what we've all made or lost and from those reports they will push prices to squeeze more out of us.

Just stop buying!
