Countryfile & Tree Planting How Many Will Grow?

Am I the only one who was horrified by tonight's worthy Countryfile program about tree planting and the inaccurate statements made about woodland. Living in the second most wooded county in England I like to think I know a bit about growing trees and how to plant them.
The first piece where the Countryfile wood is to be next to Manchester was not prepared in any way at all. The ground was covered in a thick matt of grass and not even sprayed off to reduce competition. There was no apparent plan as to what was going to be planted where and they were even going to plant Gorse.

Fortunately it was partly redeemed with the later section in Wales where it did show the ground having been prepared for planting. Not a word about methodology of planting such as in groups or about the importance of maintenance and keeping out predators such as Deer and Squirrels.

Nothing about the importance of Coppicing and thinning and what trees might have a greater value for timber in the future.

I see we are all i.e. every individual in the country being encouraged to plant a tree to celebrate the Queen’s 70 years on the throne next year. Something called the Queen’s Green Canopy

It’s Countryfile and the political BBC. I was sat quietly fuming.
Not Much point planting 750k trees here when the governments and the peoples food choice will lead to the destruction of more trees than that around the world and in the rain forest to meet their ever increasing cheap food needs. Hypocrites the lot of them. Makes me sick.

They're ffukin idiots.
Not far from here is the Heart of England Forest, funded by the Felix Dennis trust (he made his fortune printing porn)
They are buying up local land & planting with trees. Several years on, people have lost the view they once had thanks to the trees, suddenly it gets dark in the evening as there is now trees blocking their evening sunshine.
I speak from experience, 30 years ago the estate thinned the wood to the South & West of my house & we got evening sun, now it's grown up again the evening sun has gone

And how many trees are going to die. Where are these tree saplings coming from, abroad? or all home grown. People want instant, cannot wait and let it happen 'organically'. In the 70's we had Dutch Elm which wiped out our Elms, where did that come from. Having not learnt we now have Ash die back, imported on saplings from abroad, killing all our ash trees. This really pisses me off, we MUST plant more trees these people say but how many Ash trees are dying, a lot more than they will plant. I have loads of hedges with Ash in them, sides trimmed and the tops allowed to grow up, now all dying and having to be felled. That is without the big mature Ash trees that are dying, I have 5 in the lane down to my yard, as well as loads behind the hay sheds screening them from view, all showing signs of die back. What disease will be imported next by these do gooders to wipe out another species of native tree whilst they rush head long to their goal.
Rant over.
