Crash barrier feed box

Anybody made anything out of crash barriers to feed cattle in with bale silage. Got a lot of old crash barriers sitting around and am needing feeders for a yard that can be moved

I've not, but 4 uprights two barriers along the bottom and one around the top would be what I'd be thinking, similar to how some folks make feed barriers.

You'd likely need a base or have it well braced to be able to handle being moved around as it would be pretty heavy

Yes, similar to @Hesstondriver but dare I say rougher!

If you don't put the neck bars in, they drag a lot out the sides where they are open. Better with clamp or knifes bales.

Agree a centre brace required if going full length for 2 bales (one each side).

I made one same as @Hesstondriver in the early 90s. But with out the neck bars. Used 4" angle iron (old feed bin legs) for the corners but the other way around, full length crash barriers on the side, and ones cut in half for the ends. Split a barrier lengthways for the top rail. Lasted 30 odd years till the bottom crash barrier rotted out. If doing one again, i would use something more substantial for the top rail, as it would flex a lot when trying to pick it up.

I wouldn't want a floor either, but it would be one way to add rigidity.

Made about 5 with a wood floor in them at knee height.
