Anyone had this before and any idea what was wrong, what got repaired etc
Only does it turning left at the moment, and it’s irregular, nothing in a straight line or turning right.

Not saying it’s not them but I pumped new grease into them and tested it, did it straight away and sounded the same, I then jacked the back up and spun the wheels, can just about make it click clunk, whatever you want to call it, but I’m almost certain it’s coming from the diff, just interested if someone has had the same, to confirm my suspicions

Got a standard replacement coming tomorrow hopefully, just need it back on road ASAP, cattle all over the place, takes ages checking with a tractor 🤨

I had a new rear diff' on mine at 70k. Had to buy whole diff' as garage said individual parts were not sold only complete items. My D-Max had been 'ridden hard and put away wet' quite a few times in its short lifetime.

Have you got to set the new one up? I’ve never done it but looks like it can be a ball ache.
Yes it should be set up ready to bolt in, I’m the same, turn my hand to most things but setting up a diff is still something that worries me, too an expensive mistake to be made in my head!!

I had a similar click in a Peugeot 504 pick up (remember them?) but only in reverse! Diagnosed as a missing tooth off the reverse gear. A mechanic removed the bits out of the filler hole. Would that be a problem as I had to go to Wales? Only, said the mechanic, if you drive down there (500 miles) in reverse! :)

I walked into a my local garage a couple of years later and they had a 504 up on the ramp. Same problem. They were about to remove the rear axle, but I was able to tell them what the problem was. As the click was only in reverse, it was something you could live with and unlikely to cause more serious harm.

The cause was a worn gear selector and jamming it in reverse by mistake when driving forward. The gears would crunch and sometimes rip off a tooth. Repair the selector and all was good to go again -- but with a clicking when reversing.
