Different life style for someone, farm looking for a new tenant on Bute

What's the history here, from what I can find only one milk buyer first milk. Two good farms about 1600 acres in total, would suit two blocking calving herds to make a all year round supply. Am tempted have a go but moving from s area with many milk buyers to just one looks high risk 🤣

Sorry honestly not sure, just seen it advertised and stuck it on here. Beautiful place to farm though.

Not sure about the particulars of those farms, but many of the milk producers on the island got out in 2017 when they went down to about 13ppl and FM were charging them the haulage to get the milk off the island. Some unsuccessfully tried to find other buyers.

That was my gut feeling, wouldn't they be better being let as arable mix rather than dairy with noose around your neck.

Previous tenant used to milk around 250 and had about 800 sheep If I recall correctly. Spoke to him a few times but my memory is pretty rubbish.

No don’t think so. I think it will be a decent enough farm but having it as a dairy could be tricky longer term. FM closed the cheese factory on the island and it reopened making vegan cheese!!
I read that about cheese factory poor job. They seam kean to have cows there by September. Guess it suit a high risk taker.

if the landlord has sense, they will make the decision based on the person not the rent, it will take someone who fully understands what they are getting into, island life is not for all.

great opportunity though. I would be worried that there are so few of these coming up rent will go daft.

One of them is the best farm on the island, and there are a few hundreds of acres of barley grown on the island, the new proposals on silage/ slurry will be biggest drawback.
Buildings need a bit of work done on them.
